This course describes the outcomes
required to provide oxygen therapy and / or
oxygen resuscitation as appropriate until
the arrival of medical assistance. Oxygen
delivery equipment includes simple face
mask, non-rebreather mask, nasal
cannulae, and a resuscitation mask with
oxygen inlet.
Topics covered include: basic anatomy and
physiology, recognition and management of
an illness or injury, benefits of oxygen
provision, hazards, precautions and safety procedures, basic
oxygen equipment, and oxygen provision to both responsive and unresponsive victims.
This is a highly recommended training for life guards, first aiders, and safety officers (for gymnasium & fitness centre, swimming & sports complex, water & sea sports centre... etc). Participants will be certified to the administration of oxygen for general first aid emergencies, including near drowning situations, for both responsive and unresponsive victims.
Satisfactory completion of the Oxygen Provider Unit of Competency is required prior to receiving the DAN Course in Basic Oxygen Provision qualification without a CPR endorsement.
Satisfactory completion of both the Course in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and the Oxygen Provider Unit of Competency is required prior to receiving the DAN Course in Oxygen Provision in General First Aid qualification, which would also be endorsed for CPR.
Participant must be 14 years or older. In addition, participant must hold a current CPR certificate, or must have been assessed as “Competent” in CPR by the DAN Instructor.
This course includes: 4, or 8 hours of theory lecture and skills training, registration, certification with lamination, use of training aids and consumables (Laerdal manikin, DAN oxygen unit, gloves...), personal DAN student handbook, personal non-rebreather mask and personal Laerdal pocket mask.
